Hair Transplantation
A Letter from ...
Dr. Richard P. Giannotto

Dear Patient,

It is with great pleasure that I write to you and bring you up to date on some of the developments in surgical techniques. Over the past year, I have been performing sessions of 1500-3000 grafts on many patients. The results are, in a word, outstanding. In one session, a patient can achieve good density. In a second session, it is possible to achieve maximal density a Hair Transplant can provide. I feel that the results are made possible through the use of various dissecting and transplanting techniques:

  1. Follicular Unit Grafting is state of the art and the standard of care. The problem is that FU Grafting does not always provide enough density, FUs will always be the major graft technique that I use in Transplantation, but over the past year, I have begun to utilize more of a "mixed-unit" grafting technique. This enables me to implant FUs of one, two, and even up to four hairs in a given graft site. Naturalness is preserved, and density is greater. The patients have been very pleased. I will be presenting this technique in a meeting of International Hair Restoration Surgeons in Turin, Italy, in May.
  2. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is another emerging technique that is gaining widespread notice over the internet. FUE, in my opinion, is great for smaller cases of up to 800 grafts or so. This technique does leave small one-millimeter pinpoint scars in the donor area which heal well, which is why I limit the technique to smaller cases. It is also useful for extracting hairs for use in camouflaging older type scars.
  3. Improvements in instrumentation allow the grafts to be placed closer together and play a role in the increased density possible after only one session. This also decreases the recovery time after surgery. Swelling is virtually non-existent, sutures are non-irritating, and pain is virtually eliminated.
  4. All of the grafts are dissected using state of the art Mantis Microscopes, enabling minimal, if any, tissue waste. This results in a cleaner, more precise Follicular Unit and contributes to the overall end result.

These various techniques have withstood the test of time in my patients. I truly feel that now is the time to take advantage of these wonderful techniques and achieve your "peak" density in less time than you thought possible, with less post-operative recovery, and for less than you thought it would cost.

Please feel free to ask any questions regarding these procedures.

Sincerely,

Richard P. Giannotto, MD
Medical Director
